Round 1 review-
The season title defence got off to both a good and bad start for current D1NZ champ Gaz Whiter and the Tectaloy team this past Weekend at Manfeild.
Whiter headed into the event with high hopes, and after dealing with trying conditions Friday put down a solid if unspectacular run to take the 7th Qualifying spot in a 27 car field.
Battling with local hope Shane Rutland first up, Whiter advanced with some degree of comfort only to come up against a resurgent Steve “Soletrain” Sole in his big power JZX Chaser.
Sole drove a solid lead run, and then produced a good chase to close up the gap on the Tectaloy S14 to send Whiter home for the day. While some may have felt a re-run was in order, Gaz admits he could have pushed harder and was holding back. Its been a while since Gaz has gone out that early in an event, and it won’t be an experience he will want to repeat in a hurry.
On the plus side for the team, the car ran smoothly all weekend, and produced faultless clouds of tyre smoke especially in the final expression session with a frustrated driver on board, who now knows every point will count in the quest for a Fourth title.
The team congratulates Mad Mike Whiddett for his win, Andrew Redward in 2nd and fellow Driftcorp team mate Fanga Dan Woolhouse who took 3rd place.
Gaz Whiter Drift also wish to thank all of our sponsors,We will definitely be back with a vengeance at Pukekohe on the 26th and 27th of November.
